Dan Cossins, Director, Arup, has been the Project Laureate, AstraZeneca, Cambridge, since June 2013 as the Deputy Project Director for this £500m project. Dan is overseeing a co-located team of 150 people from Herzog and de Meuron (architect), designers (BDP) and Skanska (Management Contractor). He is supported by a Project Management team comprising Arup, Turner and Townsend and AstraZeneca’s own team. The AstraZeneca site is to be located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC), and will be home to one of three global strategic R&D centers and the company’s corporate headquarters, housing a highly skilled workforce of approximately 2,000. The project will create a working environment that fosters innovation in one of the world’s pre-eminent bioscience hotspots, ultimately helping AstraZeneca improve pipeline productivity.
Previously, Dan was Arup’s Framework Manager for Programme ChrySalis, a £400m program of works for the Health Protection Agency near Salisbury. He was the Senior Project Manager for the Research Project Buildings. Dan was also Project Director for the Science Hub, Public Health England, Harlow, which involved for two projects. The first involved the refurbishment of an existing building to create CL2 and CL3 research laboratories. The second project will provide a new build super-high containment specialist research facility. The Arup team have also provided services to support the organizational change required as part of the wider Science Hub program.
