Jay Bargmann, AIA, NCARB, has held a leadership position at Rafael Viñoly Architects since the firm’s founding in 1983. For more than 25 years, Jay has been involved with every research laboratory project undertaken by the firm, and has overseen numerous master plans and building projects for university, research and healthcare clients. For the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he designed a flexible casework system for which he received a U.S. patent.

Other research experience includes The Rockefeller University River Building in New York City; the new four-million-square-foot New York University Abu Dhabi campus, including an Experimental Research Building in United Arab Emirates; and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Janelia Research Campus in Ashburn, Virginia, which was awarded the “Laboratory of the Year” by R&D Magazine and Laboratory Design in 2007. Jay has been recognized for his laboratory casework contributions with an advisory board position with the Scientific Equipment and Furniture Association (SEFA).
